Another Year gone by and I’m keeping myself busy. I’ve continued my studies at Ravensbourne. I am now reading for a BA in Broadcast Production.
I also continue to freelance and conduct work experience within the industry, gaining contacts & experience. For details please contact me for my CV – oliver.riches@riches-net.co.uk
Working with the students from first year content creation lighitng a drama. Because of the general lack of set at Ravensbourne I went for quite a conceptual look to the lighting, almost theatrical rather than realistic.
Television dramas are made difficult to light by the fisher boom that mics the actors.
Things finally get back into swing on the Studio Elective @ Ravensbourne. In our production groups we are required to record one to
three items of musical performance. The programme will be judged on the highest quality lighting, camerawork, sound and direction.
Here are a few still shots i took on the day (click to enlarge) where i took the role of lighting director. Jimmy Ore is the performer .
I’m now a proud owner of a cannon 30D. I decided it would be good to try and further my understanding of photography and it really does go hand in hand with broadcasting. Just got to figure all the settings out now.
The Brief: to Create an arts based magazine programme. My Role: Producer
The Result: The Christmas Showcase
This is a video i produced, directed and lit for the show call “Dreams of Christmas”. Originally Shot in HD on a Panisonic HDX-900 (1080i 25p), of course that picture quality doesn’t show on youtube!
The first Term at Ravensbourne (Year 2) is over and with it finishes the You can do it Programe.
” This unit aims to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their operational skills and to provide creative input to the studio production process.”
“Whilst the unit allows you to focus on particular areas of your preferred specialism, an ability to work the whole range of studio equipment and in all responsible roles is expected on this elective.”
My Focus this Term was Lighting, on both basic 2 + 2 Interviews and in a larger challenge area. Decorative lighting was also a requirement! I also has a stint PAing a show!
